Ameristar St. Charles Hosts Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Ceremony

7/8/2024

Recently, Ameristar Casino Resort Spa St. Charles had the honor of hosting the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run ceremony for the Special Olympics Missouri. The annual event honors Jeff Ottenad, a former Special Olympics participant, and his family through the Jeff Ottenad Memorial leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run, beginning at Ameristar St. Charles and concluding in Wright City.

The relay covers more than 950 miles across Missouri with Ameristar St. Charles being the first stop of many along the way. Following the ceremony, over 35 Ameristar St. Charles’ team members enthusiastically participated in the relay, cheering on their colleague Jane from the Stewarding department as she proudly led the charge, carrying the torch up Ameristar Blvd. Local police officers then passed the torch to law enforcement officers from surrounding counties, concluding the 11-day relay at the State Summer Games in Columbia.

This year marks Ameristar St. Charles’ 20th year of partnership with the Special Olympics and local law enforcement. In total, the casino-resort has donated nearly $100,000 to the organization, including $5,000 this year, to continue to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
